Saturday, 18 January, 2003: Suburban League.
Tonbridge Angels Res 2-1 Tooting & Mitcham Res
Table-topping Tooting came to Longmead with 80 goals already scored in the League, six coming against the Angels earlier in the season and more than ten goals in no less than three matches.

Most of the damage in the previous match had been done by Corbett, Tooting's rangy leftwinger. This time Wayne Owen was detailed to mark Corbett out of the game, a job which he did superbly. The first half was very even but goalless, John Sinclair and Lee Cooper both going close and Matt Clark pulling off several fine saves.

Tooting needed a penalty to open the scoring on the hour, with Ben Rainbow bringing down Corbett on a rare escape from Owen's clutches. But the Angels were soon back in the match, Lee Cooper putting skipper John Sinclair through to score on 63 minutes. Owen remained in the thick of the action, flicking the ball off Corbett's toes as he was shooting, then at the other end having a tap-in cleared off the line from a corner. Young Owen capped a wonderful game on 72 minutes with a cross which sliced through the Tooting defence to find the predatory Lee Cooper on the near post for what proved to be the winning goal.
