Tonbridge Angels Res 2-0 Walton Casuals Res
The Angels’ Czech mate Vojtech Brozik finally produced the performance he has been threatening for some time to score one goal and create the other to beat Walton Casuals. It was a great day also for the Tonbridge youth system with Kieran Wilson and Dexley Fidyk in the first team squad while Mike McKeown, Drew Crush and Ross Mills stepped up from the Under 18’s to join regular youngsters Jimmy Allison and Andy Buchan in the Reserves.
Tonbridge very nearly began with a bang, in the first minute Lee Cooper missing the first of a round dozen personal scoring chances. Hit by a recent change in management and the consequent wave of player defections, Walton were never able to shut down the Angels’ crisp passing game and always looked vulnerable to the fast running Cooper and Brozik. Simon Dunk moved effectively up into midfield to inspire John Sinclair to his best game yet at this level, always running and tackling hard and often. Keeper Matt Clark got in on the act too, powering a through ball down the middle to Sinclair on 23 minutes for a narrow miss. A sustained period of Angels pressure followed, with Allison and Sinclair prominent, climaxing with Brozik neatly placing a fifteen yard drive past Walton keeper Harris on 33 minutes.
The second half began as the first had ended, and on 49 minutes tricky winger Tom Newbery set Brozik clear in the corner. The Czech produced a huge cross which dropped perfectly into the goal area, Sinclair rising to win the challenge with the keeper for the second goal.
Walton never looked like getting back into the match, but on occasion did manage to test the inexperienced Angels defence and Clark’s clean sheet was well earned.
