Saturday, 16 November, 2002: Suburban League.
Camberley Town Res 2-1 Tonbridge Angels Res
The disaster which has been threatening to engulf the Reserves for some time finally overtook them as they contrived to lose to Camberley, one of the Suburban League’s smaller clubs and in all truth one of the Leagues’s worst teams.
There was no hint of the result to come as the Angels started confidently, Dexley Fidyk and John Sinclair both going close in the first ten minutes before Rick Bryce broke his Suburban League goal drought with a fine finish on 15 minutes from a Jimmy Allison corner driven into the box by Fidyk. Lee Cooper, Steve Chapman and Bryce again were all unlucky not to add to the score as the sodden and sloping Camberley pitch dragged the game down into a heavy midfield battle.
Into the second half and the Angels’ game continued to deteriorate until the 82nd minute when a Camberley break saw the exposed Matt Clark bring down striker Hall inside the penalty area. Referee King immediately dismissed Clark, who was replaced in goal by Bryce. Camberley’s Burden duly scored the penalty, though Bryce read the shot correctly and was unlucky not to get a touch. The inevitable second Camberley goal came when Bryce was chipped to leave Burden with a simple tap-in for his and Camberely’s second goal.
