| Saturday, 12 October, 2002: Suburban League. Godalming/Guildford Res 1-1 Tonbridge A Res The Angels made hard work of this game against probably the weakest team in the Southern Division. A featureless first half was enlivened only by a clumsy 35th minute mix-up between Matt Clark and Jimmy Allison which almost gifted Godalming a goal, and a twenty yard shot from Vojtech Brozik which earned the Angels a rare corner. After the break the Angels started in lively mood, a deep cross from Dexley Fidyk being headed just wide by Paul Cardenall on 47 minutes. However, in the 57th minute the unthinkable happened: Godalming managed their first goal against the Angels in three seasons. Scrambled it may have been, untidy it certainly was, but it was the slap in the face that the Angels clearly needed. With skipper Cardenall urging them on the Angels roared back at the struggling home side. Taking advantage of the slack Godalming midfield, winger Cardenall moved inside and had time to line up a storming shot into the top corner of the home net to equalise. The rest of the match belonged mainly to the Angels, Rick Bryce being particularly unlucky. He rounded Godalming keeper Adlam on 71 minutes only to be scythed down, and had two chances from an 80th minute Steve Johns freekick, his first shot drawing a reflex save from the Godalming keeper with his second from the rebound being cleared off the line. Brozik also went close, on 78 minutes his flick from a John Beales long throw was saved, and on 81 minutes he was unfortunate to turn a dipping Darren Pearson cross over the bar. Godalming had one or two chances as well, notably in the 68th minute when the fifteen year old forward Hawkins showing his age by miskicking in front of an open Angels goal.
