Whyteleafe Res 4-0 Tonbridge Angels Res
Whyteleafe went top of the table after this comprehensive win in a match which could have taken the Angels solidly into the leading group themselves.
Dexley Fidyk almost gave the Angels the ideal start with a forty yard drive in the first minute which Whyteleafe keeper Lidbury barely managed to tip over the bar. But the home side's strategy of hard running, fast challenges and strong tackles prevented the Angels getting their usual passing game going. After Matt Clark had produced several excellent saves it was no surprise when Whyteleafe scored a soft goal on 35 minutes, Passeley lobbing a long goal kick over the stranded keeper. Five minutes later Cassidy exploited some weak challenges to drive the second goal, and his colleague Scott was allowed to repeat the exercise from the restart.
Tonbridge started the second half determined to get back into the match and were unlucky that a sustained period of pressure failed to produce a clear chance on goal despite three corners and a couple of free kicks. The introduction of the combative Paul Cardenall on 55 minutes added much-needed bite to the Angels' midfield, but the older, larger and more experienced home side never looked like losing control. Deep into injury time Scott escaped from his marker to glance a corner past Clark to complete the scoring.
