Epsom & Ewell Res 2-0 Tonbridge Angels Res
A makeshift Angels line-up subsided limply to their second defeat in three days, this time to an average Epsom team.
The match started in horrendous conditions with a strong wind driving heavy rain down the sloping pitch and into the face of Matt Clark in the Angels goal. A succession of wind-assisted Epsom corners were blown off the pitch, and a mighty Clark goal kick was blown off sideways at the near corner flag. John Sinclair missed an early chance when put through by Dexley Fidyk. Keith Moore, Keiron Wilson and Fidyk at times combined well in the middle, but it was a night for muck and bullets rather than neat passing.
Jones' goal for Epsom on 36 minutes came largely against the run of play, Mannie Neville missing a chance to equalise when put through by Moore and Fidyk shortly afterwards. The weather eased over halftime, but the Angels were unable to get their passing game going and Hannington put the home side further ahead on 59 minutes. The substitution of Steve Johns by Darren Pearson immediately afterwards forced four different positional changes in a clear illustration of the organisational difficulties facing the team. Dunk and Pearson were booked late on. A towering 35 yard wallop from an off-balance Paul Cardenall dipped enough to hit the bar, but otherwise the Angels were unable to answer the home side's challenge.
Apart from the excellent John Beales, it was a disappointing night when the Angels could look only to experience gained in difficult conditions.
