Fisher Ath 5-4 Tonbridge Angels Reserves
The Angels' unbeaten record came out in the wash against a strong Fisher outfit for whom the ball was an entertaining diversion, overlooked by a Mr Pinn who we understand was attending the match as referee. Handicapped by the late unavailability of the selected keeper, Angels took the field with Alex Kuligowski bravely stepping up from the Under 16's.
Paul Cardenall got the team off to the ideal start, scoring in the second minute with a trademark deep cross which eluded Holder in the Fisher goal. Great Angels pressure followed, Simon Dunk twice and Jon Allman both going close in a scramble on 9 minutes but failing to convert. Mr Pinn awarded a freekick for handball outside the area against Holder but failed to even caution the Fisher keeper.
Allafuah nicked a goal back for Fisher on 17 minutes, but five minutes later the Cardenall cross struck again, Allman nodding home past a hopelessly over-committed Fisher keeper. On 25 minutes McKone scored for Fisher, two minutes later he Maradona-like handled the ball past Kuligowski. The Pooter-like Mr Pinn gave a freekick for handball but failed even to caution McKone. Fisher also survived unscathed when Rick Bryce was brought down from behind as he closed in on goal.
The second half began as the first, Allman deftly flicking a Darren Pearson drive into the Fisher net, the Fisher keeper shortly afterwards rising to save a Cardenall freekick. But disaster struck on 52 minutes, McKone taking time out from tormenting marker Stevie Johns to welly a thirty yarder that would have beaten any keeper, Angels losing the ball from the re-start for Marin to dribble through and score again for Fisher. A Mannie Neville inspired revival ensued, but neither Bryce nor Allman could convert, unlike Fisher's Steele who was allowed to score from a freekick on 77 minutes.
The acrobatic Bryce dug a goal back with a soaring thirty yard screamer in injury time, but it was over for the Angels despite a late effort from Kieron Wilson.
