Saturday, 22 February, 2003: Dr Martens League Eastern Division.
Tonbridge Angels 0-1 Corby Town
Grant Mawby's 47th minute strike was enough to earn the Steelmen their second away win of the season against a lacklustre Tonbridge side at Longmead Stadium.
Mawby was set up from Danny Maye's byline pullback, and finished crisply from eight yards out to break the stalemate after a poor first half.
A bumpy pitch made flowing football difficult, and the Angels' lightweight front line made no impression despite the continual probing of Peter Overton in midfield. Neither side threatened until shortly before half time - Dean Hutchison was denied by the combined efforts of Angels skipper Lloyd Hume and 'keeper Tony Reynolds after Luke Piscina had given the ball away, and Hamid Barr's cross just eluded Piscina at the other end after a good run down the right.
Corby continued to threaten after Mawby's goal, with Lee Glover, Maye and Hutchison all wasting decent chances to extend the lead. The Angels piled on the pressure in the last twenty minutes, but couldn't create anything clear cut against a stubborn Corby rearguard in which central defender Stuart Marshall was outstanding. Two half-chances fell to Piscina in the last five minutes, but the Steelmen hung on for a valuable three points in the struggle to avoid the relegation places.
