Saturday, 2 November, 2002: FA Trophy First Round.
Tonbridge Angels 3-2 Maidenhead United
Goalkeeper Joe Radford was the hero as Tonbridge edged out their Ryman League Premier opponents in a pulsating cup tie at a rain-sodden Longmead Stadium.

Maidenhead somehow found themselves two down at the break despite dominating the first half. Lawrence Yaku, Ryan Ashe and Andy Cook all brought alert saves from Radford before Tonbridge took the lead on 27 minutes, Nick Barnes converting from the spot after Kenny Pavey was upended in the box. Pavey made it two-nil on the half-hour, clinically despatching Scott Saunders' fine left wing cross after a slick Angels build-up.

The assistant's flag ruled out Yaku's effort for the Magpies on 33 minutes after Mark Nicholls had hit the post, then Radford produced a great save to deny Ashe from close range on 35 minutes.

Maidenhead won a penalty in the 49th minute. Nicholls was fouled and took the spot kick himself, but Radford plunged to his right to save brilliantly. The Angels nearly extended their lead after Magpies 'keeper Nick Harte was slow to deal with a through ball, Orlando Jeffrey desperately belting the ball to safety as Pavey homed in on the break. The Magpies constant pressure finally told in the 63rd minute, Yaku heading home a corner at the near post, but this simply spurred the Angels to their best period of play.

Portway was just wide with a header and Harte saved well from Barnes before Tonbridge regained their two goal advantage on 81 minutes, Barnes forcing the ball over the line after Portway's header across goal.

Maidenhead sub Adeoye scored with a fine low shot from 20 yards on 88 minutes, but the Angels held out for a hard fought victory.
