Saturday, 19 October, 2002: Dr Martens League Eastern Division.
Salisbury City 2-0 Tonbridge Angels
Tonbridge suffered their second league defeat of the season at the hands of a strong Salisbury City side. The Angels were 2-0 down at half time and offered little challenge to their hosts in the second half.

Tonbridge were put under pressure from the start and early on in the first half Allan Lewis had to deal with a shot from Salisbury forward Ryan King who had flicked on a cross from the left wing. The Angels eased themselves into the game and Steve Portway was disappointed not to get a header on target from Ryan Briggs' cross. In one of the better moves of the match, Danny Tingley burst through the middle and supplied Nick Barnes who chested down the cross, turned and volleyed inches over the bar.

On 25 minutes a long ball was completely misjudged by Lewis, who caught the ball outside the penalty area. Substitute goalkeeper Joe Radford was warming up, but was not needed as the referee only showed Lewis the yellow card. Salisbury's Gary Funnell took the resulting free kick and powered a left foot shot through the Tonbridge wall and Lewis to give the home side the lead.

Salisbury doubled the lead on 41 minutes when Stuart Brown placed a glancing header out of the reach of Lewis to make it 2-0 at half-time. Tonbridge attacked from the start of the second half and were unfortunate not to win a penalty straight after the kick off. Steve Portway was chasing a through ball which bounced off the arm of a defender into the safe hands of goalkeeper Kevin Sawyer, the incident going un-noticed by the referee.

Two minutes later Ryan Royston headed wide from a Briggs free kick, before Salisbury settled again and began to control the game once more. Allan Lewis' nightmare day could have been worse after miskicking a pass back late on, but fortunately the ball went out for a corner.
